Vincent Dahozy
FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Vincent Dahozy, 69, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Family Church-Assembly of God, Fort Defiance. The Rev. Milton Shirleson will officiate. Burial will be in Rainbow Ridge Family Plot in Fort Defiance.
Dahozy died July 13, 2011, in Fort Defiance. He was born July 4, 1942, in Fort Defiance, into the Salt People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Dahozy graduated from Window Rock High School. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He worked for BIA Roads, McKinley P&M Mine, Nielson Construction and was a member of Local Union 1332. He loved being with his grandkids and was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy and Phoenix Suns fan.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Dahozy; son, Virgil Dahozy; daughters, Valerie Dalton, Bertina Jones; brother Wilson Dahozy Sr.; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
Dahozy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose Dahozy; son, Vernon Dahozy; sisters, Lillian Atcitty, Irene D. Moore; brother, Ellison Dahozy Sr.
Pallbearers will be Duane Platero Lyle Jackson, Ryan Smith, Aaron Milford, Lionel Jackson, Jimmie Hoskie, Clay Jackson, Oliver Aviso.
The family will receive relatives and friends at their residence in Fort Defiance.

Robert Mann
KLAGETOH — Funeral services for Robert Mann, 60, were at 10 a.m., Friday, July 15, at St. Anne’s Church, Klagetoh. Visitation was held one hour before services at the church.
Mann died July 12, 2011, in Ganado. He was born May 27, 1951, in Ganado, into the One Who Walks Around Other People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Mann attended grade school at Klagetoh, Kinlichee and Greasewood. He attended high school at Wingate Boarding School and Intermountain Indian High School. He was a rancher all his life and loved to be around his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his brothers, Danny Mann of Klagetoh, Edison Mann of Cross Canyon, Larry Mann of Albuquerque, Patrick Mann of Klagetoh; sisters, Katherine Ridenour of Fort Defiance, Rita Mann of Gallup, Virginia Mann of Klagetoh, Betty Mann of Tempe.
Mann was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Mary Mann; grandparents, Sam Juan and Irene Joe.
The family received relatives and friends at Klagetoh Chapter House after the burial services.

Pete (Pedro) Ortiz
GALLUP — Funeral services for T. Pete (Pedro) Ortiz, 84, will be at 3 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2011, at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup. The Rev., Larry Bernard, O.F.M. will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
Ortiz died June 28, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Gallup.
Ortiz served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ortiz was a life member of the VFW. He was the owner of Pedro’s Restaurant and Lounge. He invented the famous Pedro’s Nightmare Steak which many have tried to copy.
Survivors include his sons Paul Greene, Charles Warren, Kevin Ortiz, all of Gallup; daughters, Theresa Ortiz of Surprise, Ariz., Kari Ortiz of Winslow, Ariz.; sister Loraine Richardson of Kingman, Ariz.; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Ortiz was preceded in death by parents, Pete and Geneva Ortiz; grandparents, Thomas and Eloise Ortiz.
Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Benny Sam Sr.
WIDE RUINS — Funeral services for Benny Sam Sr., 79, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dan Martin will officiate.
Burial will be in the family plot at Burntwater, Ariz.
Sam died July 13, 2011 in Gallup. He was born Aug. 5, 1931 in Burntwater, Ariz. into the Water’s Edge People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Sam attended St. Michaels School and had retired from the railroad having been employed there for 32 years. He loved ranching and helping other people. He loved to travel and spend time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Alberta F. Sam; sons, Marvin Sam, Alvin Sam, Michael Sam, Eugene Sam, Darrell Sam, Farrell Sam, Terrell Sam, Raphael Sam; daughters, Marjorie Sam, Brenda Sam, Arlinda Sam, Roberta Sam, Ophelia Sam; brothers, Carol Joe Sam, Dick Vandever Sam; sisters, Frances Bia, Stella Ashley; 58 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Ben D. and Irene Sam; sister Elmarie Chee; sons, Lawrence D. Sam, Victor R. Sam, Benny Sam Jr., Gerald Sam; daughter Wilma I. Sam.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Sam, Eugene Sam, Darrell Sam, Raphael Sam, Cory Sam, Boyd Ashley.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Wide Ruins Chapter House after services.
Harry Silentman
WINDOW ROCK — Services are pending for Harry Silentman, 81.
Silentman died July 13, 2011 in Fort Defiance. He was born March 8, 1930 in Shiprock.
A family gathering will be held 6 p.m., today, July 15 at the Newcomb Chapter House.

Herbert Succo Sr.
WHITE ROCK — Graveside services for Herbert C. Succo Sr., 69, will be at the family plot 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, in White Rock. The Rev. Florence Barker will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in White Rock.
Succo died July 10, 2011 in White Rock. He was born April 14, 1942 in Stoney Butte, N.M., into the Sleeping Rock People Clan for the Mountain Cove People Clan.
Succo attended elementary at Bisti Methodist Mission, Phoenix Indian High School, Riverside Indian High School, Anadarko, Oklahoma College. He also attended college at University New Mexico – Gallup. He worked for Gallup Sheet Metal, Navajo Commerce Department, Lake Valley Navajo School as an educational aide and bus driver, where he retired. He was a member of CLUPC committee, member of the Atsa’ Butte Singers and community member with the White Rock Chapter House.
Survivors include his wife Lucy R. Succo; sons, Herbert C. Succo Jr., Cleavon C. Succo, Ivan C. Succo; Daughter, Janell M. Succo all of White Rock.
Succo was preceded in death by parents Mathew Succo and Marian Big Thumb; brother, Herman Succo.
Pallbearers will be Herbert C. Succo Jr., Cleavon C. Succo, Ivan C. Succo, Michael Johnson, Eldrick Morris, Hendrickson Brown, Tyron Brown, Irvin Jim.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Succo’s residence after services.
